Chaplain Resource Network (CRN), an initiative of the Marsh Institute for Chaplains (MIC) Effective: July 7, 2026

I. Introduction

The Marsh Institute for Chaplains, operating the Chaplain Resource Network (collectively, the “Organization,” “we,” “our,” or “us”), knows that you care about how your personal information is used and shared. We take your privacy seriously and want to outline the measures we employ in safeguarding your personal information.

This Privacy Notice covers our treatment of information collected when you access our website, pages, features, content, courses, communities, or services (collectively, the “Site”). We recommend that you read this Privacy Notice carefully, as it provides important information about your personal information and your rights under the law.

II. Who This Privacy Notice Applies To

This Privacy Notice applies to information we collect on the Site and in communications between you and us. It does not apply to information collected by any third party, including through any application or content that may link to or be accessible from the Site.

By accessing or using the Site or our services, you acknowledge that you have read and accept the practices described in this Privacy Notice. We may update this Privacy Notice from time to time; your continued use after we make changes is deemed acceptance of those changes, so please check periodically for updates.

III. Users Must Be At Least 18

Users of our Site must be at least 18 years old; any user under 18 is not authorized. Our Site is not targeted to children under age 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child under 18 has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will endeavor to delete it.

IV. Information We Collect and How We Collect It

We collect several types of information from and about users of the Site, including:

  • Information by which you may be personally identified, such as name, postal address, email address, phone number, organization, and role (“personal information”).
  • Content you submit to us.
  • Your preferences and professional/demographic details.
  • Account information and login credentials.
  • Messaging and email data, including related metrics.
  • Date of birth, where you provide it.
  • Payment information, which is processed by our payment providers.
  • Information about your internet connection, the device and browser you use, general location derived from IP address, and Site-usage details.

We collect this information directly from you when you provide it (for example, when you create an account, enroll, or contact us) and automatically as you use the Site (through server logs and cookies). By voluntarily providing information, you consent to our use of it in accordance with this Privacy Notice. You may choose not to provide certain information, but some features may then be unavailable.

Automatically Collected Information. When you use the Site, we automatically receive and record information in our server logs, including your IP address, browser type, cookie information, pages requested, and duration of activity. We use this information to operate and improve the Site and to understand, in aggregate, how the Site is used. We may share aggregated, non-identifying statistics with service providers and partners for lawful purposes.

Cookies. We use cookies and similar technologies to operate the Site, remember your preferences, and improve your experience. Most browsers include a “help” section explaining how to receive notice of new cookies and how to turn cookies off.

Do Not Track. Because there is no common standard for “Do Not Track” (DNT) signals, we do not respond to browser DNT signals.

V. How We Use Your Information

We use information we collect or that you provide, including personal information:

  • To provide the Site and its content, courses, communities, and services to you.
  • To process transactions and fulfill orders, including billing.
  • To register and manage your account.
  • To communicate with you, including support, account notices, and (where you have opted in) marketing.
  • To carry out our obligations arising from any agreement between you and us.
  • To protect against fraud, security incidents, and unlawful activity, and to enforce our policies.
  • To notify you about changes to the Site or our services.
  • For any other purpose with your consent.

Each marketing email includes an unsubscribe link; you may opt out of marketing at any time.

VI. Disclosure of Your Information

We are not in the business of selling your personal information, and we do not sell it. We may disclose information as described here:

  • To service providers and vendors that support our operations (for example, our learning and website platform and our payment processors), under confidentiality obligations.
  • To the federation organizations with which we partner, consistent with this Notice.
  • To a successor in the event of a merger, reorganization, or transfer of assets.
  • To our professional advisors (such as lawyers and accountants) when reasonably necessary.
  • To comply with law, subpoena, or governmental order, or to protect our rights, prevent harm, or address fraud.
  • With your consent.

VII. Financial-Account Integration

Where the Organization connects its OWN business bank account (through Plaid) for internal financial reporting, that is a first-party integration involving the Organization’s own accounts. It does not collect, process, or store the bank-account data of Site visitors or members.

VIII. Data Security

We protect information using encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, multi-factor authentication for administrative access, and a secrets manager for credentials. No Internet transmission is ever fully secure; your account is protected by a password, and you are responsible for safeguarding your credentials and signing off after use. Any transmission of personal information is at your own risk.

IX. Links to Other Sites and Social Media

The Site may contain links to third-party sites and social-media features (for example, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn). This Privacy Notice does not apply to those third-party sites, and their inclusion does not imply our endorsement. Information you share on social media is governed by each platform’s own privacy notice.

X. Other Terms and Conditions

Your access to and use of the Site is also subject to the Site’s Terms of Use.

XI. International Transfers

We primarily store your information in the United States. If you access the Site from outside the United States, you consent to the processing of your personal information in the United States and other jurisdictions in which we operate, subject to applicable safeguards.

XII. Your California Privacy Rights

California residents may request certain information regarding our disclosure of personal information to third parties, and may request access to, or deletion of, their personal information, and may opt out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell personal information). To make a request, contact us as described below.

XIII. Your GDPR Rights

If you are in the European Economic Area, the European Union, or the United Kingdom, you have rights to transparency about how we use your information, to access and correct it, to request erasure in certain situations, to restrict or object to processing, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. To exercise these rights, contact us as described below.
